Inspectors Operational Skills
This course aims to provide Inspectors with the appropriate operational skills required to perform their role.
Who is it for?
The programme is for Inspectors on promotion who will not be attending the Detective Inspector Course at the Crime Academy.
Main learning outcomes
- Critical Incident management
Managing the police response to critical incidents including the latest information on current policy, best practice on the completion of logs, taking charge at the scene, effective briefing and debriefing, assessment of the impact of incidents on communities. This is reinforced by one day Duty Officer Critical Incident Training using Hydra Immersive learning technology which allows delegates to put into practice the knowledge acquired. - Counter Terrorism
Generating options to support local and national Counter Terrorist policing through the effective gathering and dissemination of intelligence and proactive prevention activities. - Missing Persons
To understand their responsibility to review risk assessments, oversee investigations and conduct reviews - S46 Children Act 1989 Police Protection
This will enable inspectors to appreciate the role of designated officer within the Act and the rights of the child within the process - Inspector’s statutory PACE/SOCPA authorities
Sharing the latest organisational learning in relation to both PACE and SOCPA, S60 and the Mental Health Act

Duration and location
4 days non-residential currently delivered at the Leadership Academy at Hendon but suitable to be delivered at other sites across the MPS, apart from the Hydra Duty Officers’ Critical Incident day which is based at Hendon.
