Leading Our People - Fairness & Professional Standards

This module will enable delegates to identify the correct procedures and people skills when dealing with Fairness and Professional Standards whilst adopting a Value Driven leadership approach. The delegates will explore the positive influence the MPS values and behaviours have when dealing with these issues.

Who is it for?

This module is for Police Staff promoted to Band D positions and Police Officers on promotion to Sergeant and Inspector rank. Delegates will attend all four Leading Our People modules as part of their development on the Leadership Pathway.

Main learning outcomes

  • Recognise how the MPS Values and Behaviours and Value Driven leadership positively influence our dealings with incidents of fairness, complaints and misconduct.
  • Understand the purpose and principles of the Fairness at Work, complaints and misconduct procedures.
  • Explore and understand the alternatives to discipline and the right to manage.
  • Recognise the positive impact and importance of early interventions with issues of fairness, complaints and misconduct.
  • Demonstrate impartiality when dealing with staff issues
  • Identify the behavioural standards expected by the organisation.

Fairness and Professional Standards

Future development

Police Officers and Police Staff that have responsibility for staff should attend the Leading Our People modules: Attendance Management & Welfare and Performance Development.

Duration and location

A one day non-residential module for 10 delegates, deliverable at any suitable MPS training location.
