Open Programme - Attendance Management and Welfare
This module enables delegates to develop their knowledge of attendance management and staff welfare. To explore their role effectively managing the welfare and safe return to work of staff utilising the support services available. To look at how leadership can be used positively to influence attendance.
Who is it for?
This module is open to Sergeants, Inspectors, Band D’s, Band E’s with line management responsibilities and equivalent pay bands.

Main learning outcomes
Recognise how the MPS Values and Behaviours and Value Driven leadership positively influence our dealings with attendance management and welfare.
Understand attendance management policies, identifying the leader’s responsibilities in relation to team performance and motivation, identifying where a positive leader can influence attendance.
Explore and understand the alternatives to staff absence, including recuperative duties. In long term absence identifying the leader’s responsibility and the support services available together with the associated referral process for Occupational Health.
Recognise the positive impact of a successful return to work interview, identifying the procedures for discipline related absence.
Demonstrate impartiality and sensitivity when dealing with staff welfare, recognising the leaders responsibility for ‘body and mind’ whilst maintaining accurate records.
Identify the sources and signs of stress together with coping strategies for themselves and others and the implications of ignoring such signs and symptoms by early intervention considering a variety of leave options and flexible working.
